DOT by Marc Jacobs

Today we are looking at DOT by Marc Jacobs.

You will have probably noticed this perfume in the shops from the design of the bottle – it looks a lot like a ladybird and is most probably inspired by Marc Jacobs’ love for everything polka dot.

In our opinion, DOT is an instant hit which opens up with top notes of Red Berries, Dragon Fruit and Honeysuckle.  When this perfume has dried you will find a sweet floral scent coming through which is enhanced by the middle notes of Jasmine, Orange Blossom and Coconut Water.  The base notes are made up from Vanilla, Musk and Driftwood.

We’ll start by giving a very brief introduction to Roberto Cavalli; who he is, what he does and why his brand has one of the most popular perfumes around.

Roberto Cavalli is an Italian fashion designer who is perhaps best-known for his creation of the sand-blasted look on practically all denim jeans nowadays. This was simply something Cavalli put out as part of his range which caught on and still continues to be the standard to this day; therefore it is easy to see how this man can create a self-titled perfume which will capture people’s attention.

Fame By Lady Gaga

FAME signifies Lady Gaga‘s entrance in to the perfume market with a perfume named after her debut album which helped her reach the level of celebrity that she is at now.

Released in the UK on August 22nd, 2012 and in collaboration with The Haus Laboratories, FAME is but a couple of months old and is still trying to make its way in to the hearts and minds of its users.

FAME is different to other perfumes in the sense that it uses what is known as “push-pull technology”, which disregards the pyramidal composition structure that mainly all other perfumes use.

lady-gaga-fame-perfume-bottleThis technology allows FAME to highlight each individual note at the same time, without any hierarchy that you find in other perfumes – whilst wearing another fragrance, you have probably noticed the smell changes over time; this is due to the different notes wearing off and shining through. FAME will smell the same from the moment you put it on till the moment you wash it off.

The fragrance is made up of three main accords: Dark, sensual and light accord – the dark accord includes a poisonous flower known as Belladonna and a tad of incense which transforms itself into a floral veil which will engulf you with drops of honey, saffron and apricot.

Like the technology used to make this perfume, the liquid in which all of this is enveloped is also innovative; a black coloured liquid which Lady Gaga described as like fame itself: “Black like the soul of fame, but invisible once airborne.”

The design of the bottle (pictured above) is also quite nice  - shaped like an egg with a bottle stopper we can only describe as looking like a claw which is grasping the bottle. The black coloured perfume liquid is also a prominent part of this design, which is highlighted by the gold bottle stopper.

As a celebrity perfume, we like what Lady Gaga is doing by providing an innovative product which stands out amongst the dozens of other celebrity perfumes out there. A great scent and design.

GUILTY by GUCCI

Today we will be looking at GUILTY by GUCCI

You’ve probably noticed as it gets closer to Christmas that Gucci are advertising their perfume products a lot on television – and with this, you may well have noticed GUILTY being advertised.

GUILTY opens up with a strong citrus accord with a light pepper-note at the end that gives this perfume a bite. The perfume itself is classed as “floriental”, which basically is a term given to perfumes which have heavy floral and oriental notes.
These are made up from a mixture of Mandarin, Pink Pepper, Peach, Lilac, Geranium, Amber and Patchouli – allowing it to be a very strong and long-lasting fragrance.  When the first notes have died down a little bit, you will be able to smell a silky Amber as well as Patchouli.

This is a modern perfume that we think had been designed for the modern women; one who is on the go and is active in her daily life. GUILTY by GUCCI would be perfect to wear either during the day or at night and will last a good amount of time.

FLOWER by Kenzo

Launched in 2000 and created by perfumer Alberto Morillas, Flower by Kenzo is somewhat of a modern masterpiece which is sure to stand the test of time along with some of today’s most revered classics.

By all accounts, Flower is a modern smelling perfume with a remarkably rich and long lasting aroma.  Made up from Wild Hawthorne, Bulgarian Rose, Parma Violet, Cassia, Hedione, Cyclosal, Opoponax, White Musk and Vanilla, this is a fragrance which mixes some very contrasting notes to create a perfume which has a similar effect to Guerlain’s Insolence; another perfume which uses a blend of some very modern and very traditional elements such as rose and violet.

CURIOUS by Britney Spears

britney-spears-curious-perfume-advertisementReleased in 2004, Curious was Britney Spears’ first perfume endorsement and was the number one selling perfume for that year in department stores from across the world.  This later lead to the fragrance receiving the title of “Best Women’s Fragrance” for 2005 and helped to staple the brand name and it’s longevity in the market place.

The fragrance is made of several different notes, first of which are from the floral accords – Magnolia, Pear and Lotus flower; followed by a second wave which comes from Tuberose, Jasmine and Cyclamen.  The base notes are mainly woody – white woods, sandalwood – with the exception of musk and vanilla.

This makes up for a great fragrance that is truly inspirational and well thought out perfume which is still highly popular between early-to-mid-twenty year old women today.  The price on which this perfume is one the market at and the value for money because of its longevity factor make this a great buy.

britney-spears-curious-perfume-productWe think that it would be best worn during the daytime – one or two sprays should last you a good long while, which is perfect when going about your daily business and may not have time to re-apply.  The design of the bottle itself is what we see as a modern take on the original perfume bottles from the 1930′s; diamond shaped with a large stopper for the top, however it has been done in an opaque blue with some pink charms around the neck of the bottle

BIG PONY 1 FOR MEN by Ralph Lauren

In 2010, Ralph Lauren released a new line of fragrances which were designed to put out a bold statement; this was partly done by drastically re-sizing their existing logo to make it larger and stand out more on the front of the product – it was accompanied by a wide range of other Ralph Lauren products besides perfumes.

That new line was of course, the “Big Pony” range – a name given in reference to the large logo that is used on all of these products.

Each of the fragrances in this range have a number between one and four and also a different coloured bottle.

Today were looking at Big Pony 1 for Men, which comes in a blue bottle that is shaped in the style of a hip-flask and has the Big Pony logo embossed on the front and the “1″ in the backdrop.

To imagine the smell of this fragrance, imagine citrus – or more accurately, lime.  The first thing you can smell is this, followed by a woody aroma which is produced from by the element of oak.  There is a tiny bit of sweetness in there, but it is something that you will find only comes after the first notes wear off.

All of this is presented in a way which does not impose itself upon you and is subtle enough for you to enjoy both on yourself or somebody else.

It is definitely a range aimed at younger people, both with the design and the smell.  We believe that Big Pony 1 for Men is a fragrance that would find its full potential when worn during the day, however that isn’t to say that you wouldn’t smell great when wearing it at any other time!
